ABOUT STUDENT HOUSING IN TILBURG

Student Housing in Tilburg (SHT) was founded to address the severe housing shortage facing students arriving in Tilburg each semester. Every year, hundreds of international and domestic students arrive in Tilburg without permanent accommodation. Many are forced to stay in expensive hotels, travel hours daily, or even consider canceling their studies before they begin.

How the Couchsurfing Model Works

SHT operates on a mutual aid couchsurfing principle. We connect homeless students with local residents, students, and hosts who have a spare room, couch, futon, or air mattress available for short-term stays (ranging from a few days up to 3 months).

Key Principles:

  • Non-Profit & Free Service: SHT does not charge registration fees or subscription costs to students or hosts.
  • Safety & Screening: We process application details to ensure suitable, compatible matches between hosts and students.
  • Support & Advocacy: We also offer viewing representation for international students who cannot attend in-person housing viewings in the Netherlands.

Partnership with Student Party SAM

SHT works in close collaboration with Student Party SAM, a prominent faction in the Tilburg University Council. SAM helps provide organizational support, advocacy within university leadership, and outreach to broaden emergency housing options across Tilburg.
